Nanaimo Pagan Pride Day Celebrates A Growing Community

Now in its sixth year, Nanaimo Pagan Pride Day continues to reflect a growing Pagan community on central Vancouver Island and across North America.

“The growing numbers are no surprise,” says Temple of the Green Cauldron clergy person Kam Abbott.

Earth-based religions are just that, we hold the earth as something sacred and as something that should be protected. With recent environmental catastrophes such as the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, global climate change, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and dozens of others in the media recently, consciousness has been shifting towards the impact we have on this fragile sacred sphere we all share.

I believe people are finally starting to realise how interconnected we are and how much our actions, even the smallest ones, have on the environment and others around us. This is something that earth-based, or Pagan religions, have always held as one of their highest moral priorities. But for Pagans, that moral is interwoven with our spiritual practice.

To many people, a spiritual path that combines responsibility for ones own actions, along with love and respect for the world around them, is very appealing indeed.”

This year’s main event will be a Wiccan ritual presented by Nanaimo’s Temple of the Green Cauldron.

Wiccan rituals are rich with symbolism and metaphor. In this ritual, the temple’s clergy will guide and explain each step along the way, and take you into the world of modern witchcraft.

The day will be full of workshops, live entertainment, dance, music, drumming and celebration. A food concession will be open throughout the event and vendors from around the province will have their wares on display.

The sixth annual Nanaimo Pagan Pride day is Saturday, August 28^th. The day starts at 11AM at the Kin Park on Departure Bay Beach and runs until 6PM.

Join us for a day of music, dance, drumming, workshops and community!

The sixth annual Nanaimo Pagan Pride Day is Saturday, August 28 and starts at 11AM at the Kin Park on Departure Bay Beach.

This years musical guests include:

Anna Atkinson, Brian Hazelbower & The Owl and the Pussycat

Worshops booked at this point:

Flourishing Family Doula Care, Crystal Magick with Sable Aradia, Drumming with Robin (Sylvan Temple Drums), Magick and the Power of Intent with Sable Aradia.

This years main ritual will be a Wiccan ritual presented by the clergy of the Temple of the Green Cauldron.

As always, great food will be on hand and Pagan vendors will be in attendance with all sorts of wonderfull shiney things on display and for sale.

Be sure to join us at 5:15 for the drum circle and closing ritual!

Garage Sale & Bake Sale – July 24

We need your garage sale donations and delicious baked goods!!

Pagan Pride day is just a month away and we still have a lot of fundraising to do!

Its time to clean out the house and put those un-used items to a good cause and help support Nanaimo Pagan Pride Day 2010.

Bring us your furniture, clothing, kitchen wares, yard tools, plants, boxes of assorted items, whatever you have!

And as an added bonus this year we will have a table of baked goods for sale. We are seeking donations of whatever delicious magick you can conjure up in your kitchen!

The sale will be on Saturday, July 24′th from 9AM to 5PM

Garage sale donations will be accepted any time from now right up to the day of the sale. If no one is home to accept your donation please just place it in the garrage.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Fundraiser

A car load of fresh Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be coming over from the mainland on the first ferry, Saturday June 5′th!

Visit us at Walmart and help support your community with the purchase of a box of these yummy delights!!

And don’t forget to pick up a few raffle tickets when you see us!

The proceeds from these sales will be going to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation to benefit the new Emergency Ward at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The ward will be built over four years and shall cost millions of dollars. Nanaimo Pagan Pride is proud to be a part this event.

Pagan Pride Day Fundraising Kick-Off

It is that time of year again when we start the mad round of fund-raising in order to present our Pagan Pride Day event. The event has become more successful with each passing year.!

We are setting up a few fund-raising events and are hoping that you will come out to lend a hand or offer your support. We have scheduled 6 car washes, weather permitting, starting this month. The first one is:

DATE: May 29, 2010

TIME: 10:30 am – 2:30/3:00 pm

PLACE: Petro Can Gas station at Country Club Mall, next to Dairy Queen

This year all our fund-raising will again be donated to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, specifically towards the much needed new Emergency Ward. This is expected to be a 4 year building project with much of the money needed raised locally. We are pleased to be able to help the Hospital Foundation reach their goals in a minor way.

As Nanaimo Pagan Pride Days local coordinator, I wish to thank the Temple of the Green Cauldron for sponsoring this event for the 6th year. The members of the Temple have been a great help in providing the manpower to make this day long festival work.

I would also like to thank Lobelia’s Lair and Thrifty Foods at Longwood Station for their continued support and donations.

Apart from car washes, we will be trying a few new ideas, and shall be asking for volunteers to sell raffle tickets.
